The Africa Center for Peace, Security and Environmental Affairs (ACPSEA) successfully held its first project — the Eastern Africa Greens Congress, from 26th – 27th July 2025 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The event brought together delegates from five Eastern African countries: Somalia, Kenya, Burundi, Uganda, and the host country- Rwanda. This milestone event aimed to foster regional collaboration on environmental justice, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.
During the two-day meeting, participants held discussions on the role of green movements and civil society in addressing environmental degradation, regional insecurity, and the challenges of climate change. The meeting also provided a platform to build alliances, share country-level experiences, and develop a joint regional strategy for environmental action and peacebuilding.
One of the key outcomes of the congress was the agreement to establish the regional headquarters in Rwanda, marking a significant step toward regional coordination. Participants agreed that Rwanda’s commitment to environmental sustainability and peacebuilding made it a fitting home for the regional operations. A resolution was made to begin identifying a suitable space to house and construct the headquarters.
The ACPSEA’s first project was made possible through the generous support of the International Foundation Groenlinks-Netherlands. Their support reflects a growing international commitment to strengthening regional integration and civil society collaboration in Africa.
ACPSEA remains committed to regional cooperation for a peaceful, secure and environmentally sustainable Africa and the world at large.
